Melissa Segev, Au.D. , F.A.A.A.

Dr. Segev is the co-owner of Audiology Associates and is a Maryland native who grew up in Baltimore. She received her undergraduate degree from Towson University and her clinical doctorate in Audiology (Au.D.) from the University of Pittsburgh. Her academic awards include the University of Pittsburgh School of Health and Rehabilitation Emeritus Award, Ann Pascasio Award, and the Pennsylvania Academy of Audiology Student Scholarship. She currently serves as President of the Maryland Academy of Audiology and is currently a fellow member of the American Academy of Audiology and the Academy of Doctors of Audiology.  She has given talks at national conventions on hearing loss and the best ways to manage patient care.  Dr. Segev specialize in the programing and fitting of hearing aids as well as balance disorders.  Dr. Segev believes that early treatment of hearing problems can greatly improve quality of life for the entire family, not just the individual. When not at work, Dr. Segev can be found with her two young sons, husband, and goldendoodle in the Annapolis area.

Deirdre Courtney, Au.D.

Dr. Volpe joined Audiology Associates in 2019. She is a Maryland native who grew up in Carroll County. Dr. Volpe received her undergraduate degree in Speech-language Pathology/Audiology from Towson University and her clinical doctorate in Audiology (Au.D.) from University of Pittsburgh where she received the American Academy of Audiology Continued Achievement Scholarship of 2018. Her dissertation involved characterizing hearing abilities in individuals with Facioscapulohumeral Muscular Dystrophy (FSHD). She is currently a fellow member of the Academy of Doctors of Audiology and the Maryland Academy of Audiology. Dr. Volpe is passionate about eliminating the numerous consequences of untreated hearing loss, effectively diagnosing and treating debilitating vestibular disorders, and building longstanding positive relationships with her patients. Dr. Volpe’s other interests include interior design, trying new coffee shops, spending quality time with her family and friends, and grill nights with her husband Tommy.

Dr. Courtney received her Bachelors of Science (B.S.) degree in Speech Language Pathology and Audiology from Towson University in 2010; where she went on to earn her Doctorate of Audiology (Au.D.) degree in 2014. Dr. Courtney joined our team in 2018, taking over our Glen Burnie location following Dr. Rouleau’s retirement. Prior to working at Audiology Associates, Inc., Dr. Courtney worked for a commercial practice in Rockville, as well as an ENT practice located in Frederick and Hagerstown. Her clinical interests include audiologic evaluations across the lifespan, taking a special interest in pediatric patients, hearing aid fittings, tinnitus management, and balance disorder evaluations and treatment. When not at work, you will find Dr. Courtney spending time with her family (husband and 2 children, a boy and a girl), exploring the downtown Frederick area where they live, or learning new decorating techniques for baked goods. Dr. Courtney is currently a member of the Academy of Doctors of Audiology (ADA) and Maryland Academy of Audiology (MAA) as well as a fellow of the American Academy of Audiology. She recently was voted to be member-at-large for the Maryland Academy of Audiology.

  • Evaluation of infants through older children and adults.
  • Comprehensive hearing evaluation that may include:
    • Test that measures recognition of speech in background noise.
    • Measurement of specialized function in the inner ear.
    • Test of eardrum movement, middle ear pressure, middle ear reflex.
  • Evaluation of tinnitus (e.g., ringing or noises in the ears).
  • Hearing aid evaluation – expert review of hearing aid options relative to communication needs and hearing loss.
  • Thorough orientation and counseling for beneficial hearing aid use.
  • Computerized measurement of individual hearing aid performance.
  • Hearing aid cleaning, maintenance and repairs.
  • Hearing aid batteries and chargers. Assistive listening devices.
  • Swim molds, hearing protection devices, impressions for musician monitors.
  • Evaluation of infants through older children and adults.
  • Vestibular Assessment: Evaluation of dizziness and/or imbalance. Recommendations for vestibular rehabilitation therapy and treatment.
