Not long ago, Talk Radio invited us on the show to talk about all things hearing.
With an average of 433,000 listeners per week, it’s our opportunity to promote the awareness of healthy hearing and inspire others to take action.
Using Melissa Segev’s wealth of knowledge and expertise, our short slot aims to tackle some of the most common hearing myths and misconceptions, ensuring others are more aware of how to tackle and treat hearing loss.
This week, we talked about OTCs in particular. But what are they exactly?
Prefer to read rather than listen? Below is the transcript for you!
OTCs
An OTC hearing aid is an over-the-counter hearing aid. They have recently become more popular since the FDA recently passed a law on the regulation of OTCs.
The exciting news is that as well as being sold on Amazon and at Target, they will also be sold inside of our office.
Here at Audiology Associates, we can help you have them properly fitted and programmed to meet the needs of your hearing.
What do they do?
To help patients better understand their use, we often describe them as readers.
For example, if you don’t need the full prescription of hearing aids but just need a boost in your hearing, then they are a great option.
It’s also important to note that they are not for people with a hearing loss. They don’t have the capabilities of filtering out background noise or include any other impressive features that hearing aids have.
Please bear that in mind when you are browsing OTCs.
Settings and Capabilities
There are a varying range of OTCs. While some are able to target high-end frequencies, others are not so great.
If you’re confused on which device is right for you, the best thing you can do is come and visit us at Audiology Associates.
Using our expertise, we can steer you in the right direction and recommend one which would be perfect for your needs.
