#5 - Our "Family Business" Roots

In 1977, Dr. Craig W. Johnson opened Audiology Associates as the first private practitioner in the state of Maryland. He was a key figure in raising hearing health awareness across the state and was one of the most highly respected audiologists in the US.

In 2013, Dr. Johnson unexpectedly passed away, resulting in his daughter, Melissa, and long-standing audiologist, Dr. Holtan, taking over the business.

The high-standard of hearing healthcare and passion for raising awareness that Dr. Craig W. Johnson dedicated his career to are in the roots of Audiology Associates.

#6 - You'll Only See One Audiologist

When you build a relationship and trust one audiologist, it can be frustrating to see a different one on your visits and appointments. That’s why we do all we can to ensure that you only ever have a relationship with one audiologist.

#7 - Trusted by Local Physicians

Audiology Associates is regularly turned to by local physicians when they need advice or support on their patients’ hearing health, with many of them referring patients to us, as they believe we’re the leading provider.

#8 - Female-Owned

Something that we’re really proud of is the fact we are an entirely female-owned business. Owned and directed by Dr Melissa Segev and her business partner Dr Briana Holtan, we’re committed to flying the flag of female entrepreneurship, hopefully inspiring other females to achieve their dreams. Leading from the front and breaking boundaries is why so many people trust us to take the best care of them.

I was looking for an audiologist to follow me and my hearing concerns. An audiologist who is thorough and detailed, and who would take the time to explain each test, test result, and all hearing aid options. Dr. Jennifer Kincaid exceeded my expectations! Additionally, she was kind and gracious, traits that I highly value and appreciate! I would without question highly recommend Dr. Kincaid!

How Did Audiology Associates Begin?

For 46 years, we’ve stood apart from other advanced hearing care providers. The difference? We place patients’ comprehensive welfare at the heart of all our treatments.

This approach stretches back to 1977, when Dr Craig W Johnson founded his landmark clinic in Maryland. His wealth of pioneering expertise is embedded in our practice.

Revolutionary Care

Dr Johnson’s first question to patients was never, “How is your hearing today?” Instead he would ask: “How are you today?” How’s your family?” “How’s your life going?”

He recognised hearing loss wasn’t an isolated symptom. Rather, by examining how patients’ conditions affected their quality of life, he could dispense far more sophisticated forms of diagnosis.

His clinics soon grew in number, becoming fixtures across Maryland’s different communities. Patients didn’t just want to be fitted for hearing aids, but prized Dr Johnson’s personal approach to treatment.

This desire to help others spread into his activism. He supported universal hearing screening for infants in Maryland and helped overturn legislation limiting patients’ choice of hearing aids.

Later, he fought for his high standards to be implemented across the country, championing a new Doctor of Audiology degree and becoming Maryland’s first recipient.

A Legacy of Excellence

Today, we’re proud that his ground-breaking legacy continues in the work of his daughter Dr Melissa Segev and her partner Dr Briana Holtan, Audiology Associates’ current directors.

Their team of doctors aren’t just chosen for their outstanding medical records, but for their capacity to listen and communicate with those who receive our attention.

This is underpinned by our pledge that you’ll only ever see one physician. Lasting relationships ensure patients trust their personal doctor to diagnose and manage their ongoing conditions.

Whether you’re concerned about tinnitus, dizziness or hearing loss, our commitment to comprehensive health care guarantees your needs become our first priority.

Our Warm Reception

This duty of care extends to all aspects of our service. That’s why at our 13 Maryland locations, each with wheelchair access, we take your comfort seriously.

Our care coordinators greet every patient with a smile, coffee, and reading material. We also maintain very short wait times, so you’ll always attend your appointments promptly.

Across our clinics, we have Doctors specialized in treating patients of different ages and conditions. This means wherever you are in your hearing journey, we make sure you feel welcomed.

This is one of the reasons why other medical care providers choose us for referrals. We’re known as world leaders not just in diagnosis, but also, in patient satisfaction.

New Era Technology

When it comes to hearing aids, we work with every single manufacturer. This means we’re completely independent, offering equipment that will fit the needs of every customer.

Since the early years, hearing aids have risen in style and sophistication. These discrete, sometimes invisible devices now offer features like Bluetooth connectivity and rechargeable lithium-ion batteries.

However, our patients benefit from stunning advance hearing care solutions regardless of their financial contribution.

We know hearing technology transforms lives, and we can achieve this at any level.

Today’s Challenges

Modern life presents a range of new threats to our hearing. Whether through blaring music or thudding machinery, the world outside can be uncompromising.

Hearing loss doesn’t just affect our cognitive function but impacts how we connect with those around us. Today, more than ever, it’s important to address this routinely.

Thousands of patients trust us each year to manage their symptoms. It’s something we’ve pioneered for 46 years, and we’re proud to be regarded as experts.
