Dr. Briana Bruno Holtan

Au.D, CH-TM

Audiologist – Carney Office

Dr. Holtan is the co-owner of Audiology Associates, one of the first private audiology practices established in the state of Maryland. She earned her master’s degree from Towson University and completed her doctoral degree at A.T. Still University’s Arizona School of Health Sciences.

Originally from Norfolk, Virginia, Dr. Holtan joined Audiology Associates in 1997 after connecting with its founder and her mentor, Dr. Craig Johnson—a pioneering advocate for audiology autonomy. Inspired by his leadership and passion, Dr. Holtan has continued his legacy by championing excellence in both clinical care and professional advocacy.

Dr. Holtan has co-led Audiology Associates with her trusted partner in practice, Dr. Melissa Segev. Together they have built a dynamic, forward-thinking practice rooted in shared values of clinical excellence, professional integrity, and patient-centered care.

A dedicated clinician, Dr. Holtan is known for her compassionate, patient-centered approach. She provides individualized care tailored to each patient’s unique hearing needs, ensuring the highest level of support and service.

“Understanding each patient’s life experiences and lifestyle is not only important but is also critical to improving our patient’s hearing needs and delivering the most effective hearing care solutions.”

In alignment with Audiology Associates’ tradition of leadership, Dr. Holtan has taken an active role in advancing the profession at both the state and national levels making it easier for patients to obtain the best in advanced hearing and balance health care. She has served as Treasurer and President of the Maryland Academy of Audiology (MAA), and has contributed to national discourse through published articles in Audiology Today.

Dr. Holtan has worked tirelessly to address restrictive insurance policies that previously limited patients’ ability to access appropriate hearing care. Her advocacy has helped restore freedom of choice to federal employees and others across the country, enabling access to advanced hearing technology through expanded insurance benefits.

In 2024, Dr. Holtan, together with Dr. Segev and the MAA legislative team, led a landmark effort to modernize Maryland’s audiology scope of practice. She played a key role in providing testimony and building legislative support. The bill passed with strong bipartisan backing, making Maryland the first state in the nation to authorize audiologists to practice at the top of their training including ordering cultures, bloodwork, and radiographic imaging related to auditory and vestibular conditions of the ear. This long-anticipated achievement represents a major milestone in professional autonomy and patient access to care.

“Maryland audiologists will now be able to better care for patients.”

Outside of her professional work, Dr. Holtan enjoys spending time with her husband, their spirited golden retriever, and extended family. She loves the outdoors and can often be found gardening, hiking, or fishing.
